Welcome Angela Brooks Wilson, Dean of SFU Science

October 28, 2022

SFU Science welcomes Angela Brooks-Wilson, who will be serving as Dean of Science as of October 31, 2022.

“I am very excited to be joining Faculty of Science as dean, and to both lead and serve our Faculty of Science community,” Brooks-Wilson says.

Brooks-Wilson comes to her role as dean with a wealth of experience as a researcher, creative mentor and dedicated problem solver. She joined the department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology in 2008 and chaired the department from 2016 to 2020. Most recently she has served as the associate vice-president Research pro tem. She is currently a distinguished scientist with the BC Cancer Research Centre at BC Cancer.

She acknowledges that working throughout the pandemic has been challenging for many in the Faculty of Science, and she is looking forward to working with faculty and staff to plan for the future while preserving the faculty’s strengths.

“Moving forward, I plan to have us act thoughtfully and calmly,” she says. “There will no doubt be future changes, and it is my intent that we will be like a strong and seaworthy boat, and bob on any waves that come our way.”

Brooks-Wilson is taking over from Michael Silverman, who has served as dean pro-tem for the past thirteen months. “I would like to sincerely thank Michael Silverman for serving as interim dean,” she says. “He carried out the role with great thoughtfulness, care and kindness.”

Silverman will be continuing on as Associate Dean, Research.
