spotlight on research

COVID-19: SFU researchers Lena Dolgosheina, a post-doctoral fellow and Dr. Peter Unrau, a professor of molecular biology and biochemistry, will use their pioneering imaging technology—called Mango, for its bright colour— to develop coronavirus testing kits.

SPORTS ANALYTICS: Statistician Dr. Tim Swartz leads cutting-edge courses in the new field of Sports Analytics. His team of graduate students analyzed player tracking data from ~7,000 plays with 34,000 routes to win the NFL’s Big Data Bowl competition.

BATTLING SUPERBUGS: Dr. Fiona Brinkman is collaborating with U.S. researchers to test a new drug that can kill a wide range of superbugs without harming human cells. These bugs include bacteria that have been resistant to common antibiotics so far.
