spotlight on research

COVID-19: Mathematicians Paul Tupper and Caroline Colijn led the development of a model to assess the likely impact of various COVID-19 interventions on transmission in workplaces and other activities. Click here if you are interested in donating to SFU's COVID research.

EXTINCTION RISK: Dr. Nick Dulvy's marine biodiversity and conservation team led an international collaboration that assessed the devastating global decline of sharks and rays since 1970. Their recent Nature paper desribes the dire risk of extinction due to increased overfishing.

SPORTS ANALYTICS: Statistician Dr. Tim Swartz leads cutting-edge courses in the new field of Sports Analytics. His team of graduate students analyzed player tracking data from ~7,000 plays with 34,000 routes to win the NFL’s Big Data Bowl competition.
