Know before you go
Winter weather is unpredictable, but your preparedness doesn’t have to be! Be ready for whatever weather comes your way this winter!
Plan Beforehand
- Prepare for winter weather and storms and have a winter emergency kit for your home, office, and vehicle.
- Know what to do during extreme weather at SFU.
- Drive slowly around Burnaby Mountain, allocate extra travel time for possible road closures, rerouting, or accidents on the road.
- Be familiar with the priority snow clearing routes and check out live campus webcams on our Road Report webpage before heading out.
- Follow @TransLink to know about public transportation schedules or disruptions.
- Be familiar with indoor walking routes (covered walkways) to prevent slips and falls.
Stay connected and be informed
Know where to access important campus information and updates to help you plan and stay safe.
- Download SFU Safe app and enable push notifications. Access safety and security information and resources, emergency contacts, and receive important campus alerts.

Check your local media, Environment Canada, Emergency Info BC and your local municipality for additional supports during periods of severe weather.
Snow removal services
During storms, the snow removal team uses a fleet of eleven snow plows and tractors to clear roads and pathways. Accessible entrances and pathways are cleared first. Learn more about snow removal processes at Snow & Ice Removal Services.
