SFU Science researchers receive over $7 million in new NSERC funding

Simon Fraser University Faculty of Science researchers have received $7,061,500 in newly awarded funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery program.

The funding, announced on August 29, 2023, provides long-term operating funds to support research programs led by Faculty of Science faculty in a wide variety of natural sciences and engineering disciplines, including chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and statistics.

Applicants from the Faculty of Science were awarded $5,887,500 in five-year Discovery awards and supplements plus $1,174,000 in one year Discovery grant extensions, for a total of $7,061,500 in newly awarded NSERC Discovery program funding.  

Overall, Faculty of Science researchers showed an 86% success rate this year for Discovery grant applications, up from 78% in 2022, and well above the national average of 58%.
