Dr. Catherine Shaffer-McCuish wins 2021 Christopher Webster Early Career Award
Christopher Webster Early Career Award
The Christopher Webster Early Career Award recognizes an individual in the early stages of their career who has made significant contributions to the forensic mental health field. This award is provided by the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services and honours emeritus professor Dr. Christopher Webster.
2021 - Dr. Catherine Shaffer-McCuish
Dr. Shaffer-McCuish received her PhD in Forensic Psychology and Law from Simon Fraser University in 2020. She currently is a research analyst for the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit - BC and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as well as an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University.
Dr. Shaffer-McCuish’s research and professional activities focus on the assessment and management of general and specialized forms of violence (i.e., intimate partner violence, gang-related violence, self-directed violence, sexual violence) among youth and adults, the association between mental and personality disorders and violence, and evidence-based practices for working with individuals who engage in violence and other forms of offending. She is also the recipient of the 2021 American Psychology-Law Society Dissertation Award (1st place).
