Tiara Cash awarded 2022 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship
Congratulations to Social Psychology PhD student Tiara Cash on receiving the 2022 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship!
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is awarded to doctoral students with a high standard of scholarly achievement and academic excellence, demonstrated leadership ability, and research potential.
In her PhD research project, 'Does prosocial action promote well-being during life transitions?', Cash examines the ways in which prosociality can support well-being in people who are experiencing life transitions. She plans to use a multi-method approach to investigate three research questions: Do people engage in prosocial acts during life transitions? Does engaging in prosocial behavior during life transitions support well-being? And, if prosociality does support well-being during life transitions, do social connection and/or sense of meaning provide potential pathways? To answer her research questions, Cash will obtain evidence from recall surveys, weekly diaries, and experimental design using data collected from first year student participants who are transitioning to university.
Cash's research can help us better understand the conditions of helping and happiness, as well as to inform and support universities around the world in creating effective transition and retention programs.
