Jason Proulx awarded 2021 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship

July 19, 2021

Congratulations to Social Psychology PhD student Jason Proulx for receiving the 2021 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship!

Named after Canada's Major-General Georges P. Vanier, the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program is designed to support world-class doctoral students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields.

Proulx's PhD research project, 'Beyond the curriculum: A mixed-methods examination of classroom prosociality interventions on long-term generosity and happiness among youth,' aims to discover if and how school-based prosociality programs can boost long-term generosity and happiness in youth (aged 10 - 18).

He will focus his investigation on two real-world prosociality interventions: one which allows youth to practice and reflect on acts of charity and another which connects students with Elders in a long-term care facility over the school year.

Proulx will use large, methodologically rigorous experiments and community-engaged, qualitative methods to examine one of the biggest puzzles in the social sciences—human generosity—while helping communities across Canada leverage real-world interventions to foster youth character development and enrich student well-being.
