Join Nlka’pamux and Syilx knowledge keeper Teresa Walker for an afternoon of learning traditional paper making techniques. Make your own cedar bark paper and learn how to incorporate other dried natural materials. Students may bring their own dried flowers, mushrooms, moss etc. to incorporate and will bring home an art piece of their own creation.

A visual artist / weaver/ fashion designer / knowledge keeper / dancer and entrepreneur, Teresa Walker is a 30 year veteran artist of Nlka’pamux, Sylix, and Lakota decent. Her works are a fusion of traditional and contemporary mediums and she has spent years researching and bringing back her peoples use of these traditional mediums and fibres. She started out as a film artist in the mid-80s and was one of the first people of Indigenous decent to graduate from Vancouver Film School. Teresa found rediscovery of her indigenous heritage when she was asked to do research and work as a wardrobe designer and Indigenous continuity consultant on films, which was the start of her journey. With the birth of her two children, Teresa became a full time artist and retired from the film industry.
