Kanagawa up for a Governor General's Literary Award

SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa's adaptation of Mark Sakamoto's book Forgiveness has been nominated for the Governor General's Literary Award for Drama. We're rooting for you! More HERE.

Hopeful Monster reviewed – and live

Read a review in The Belleville Intelligencer of Hopeful Monster, the new collaborative album by the SCA's Mauricio Pauly and Eve Egoyan, released by No Hay Discos. Read it HERE. TPE play Harmony of the Spheres

Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor, is presenting Harmony of the Spheres on November 25 at 7:30 PM & November 26 at 2:30 PM at UBC's Telus Studio Theatre at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent Road, Vancouver). More HERE.

Magdy talks horror on the CBC

SCA alumnus Doaa Magdy was on CBC Radio's On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko to talk about the upcoming Horror in Seconds festival, dedicated to 60-seconds-or-less horror shorts from emerging BIPOC filmmakers in Canada, which opens November 22 at the Fox Cabaret​ (2312 Manin St., Vancouver), and runs at various venues to November 26, 2023. They also talked about the video making workshop Magdy ran on Tuesday, October 24, at the Vancouver Public Library​'s Central branch. Listen HERE.

SCA alumnus Olivia Shaffer has been announced as the new Associate Artistic Director of EDAM Dance, and eventually the successor of Peter Bingham as Artistic Director. More HERE.

What the F-Word is Going On?

Working with Mikeeto Zavorotny and Cece Ludwar, SCA alumni Garvin Chan and Jesse Del Fierro are at Rumble Theatre workshopping What the F-Word is Going On?, which is a "primarily improvised panel show about where Garvin Chan (our asexual panel host), learns about sex via our panelists through word games, banter, and more things they'll come up with during the workshopping process." SFU Galleries​' Karina Irvine is the new Publisher of ReIssue​, the virtual / print anthologized "interdisciplinary art writing platform" that has SCA alumnus and current PhD student Casey Wei as Editor. Congratulations all round!

Basanta's Rough Beast

Produced during his artist residency at Ubisoft Montreal, SCA alumnus Adam Basanta​ has shared the new video work Rough Beast, which he describes as "A work of speculative auto-fiction on the future of artificial intelligence and labour, network science and data rights; on personal doubts and collective memories; on the role of the artist in a corporate environment. On being sad and wondering what sadness actually is." Watch it HERE.
