Radul in 92

Watch an excerpt from an archival video of the SCA's Judy Radul, looking cool in '92, giving a lecture at Capilano College, which was shared by The Capilano Review (with SCA alumni Jacquelyn Zong-Li Ross as Art Editor and Lauren Lavery​ as Managing Editor). The SCA's Wladimiro A. Woyno Rodriguez (Outstanding Projection or Video Design for Ghost River Theatre's STRUCK) and SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa (Outstanding New Play for Theatre Calgary's presentation of Forgiveness) won Betty Mitchell Awards! Stafford Arima (Outstanding Direction) and Theatre Calgary (Outstanding Production of a Play) also won for Forgiveness, too. Congratulations! See the full list of all the winners HERE.

SCA alumnus Sammy Chien and Chimerik 似不像 were in Italy with Wen Wei Dance on a residency at Palermo's Politeama Theatre with Adarte Compagnia, and offered a "soft premiere" of BAROCCO RAVE on June 25 at Poggibonsi's Cassero della Fortezza di Poggio Imperiale, presented as part of the Ballo Pubblico Festival. Clala Dance Project, the project-based collective of SCA alumni Tomoyo Yamada and Charlotte Telfer-Wan and Ana Daria Vieru, are developing Uchi, a new "online, immersive, interactive" work, in collaboration with SCA alumnus Joey Zaurrini​. More HERE.

withintensions' Harmonies

withintensions, the monthly art mag produced by SCA alumni, is calling for their next issue on the theme of Harmonies. Submissions are due July 4, 2023. Also, don't forget to download their latest issue on the theme of Green. Get submission info and grad that issue HERE.

Zahak, the Serpent King

The Biting School (SCA alumnus Aryo Khakpour and Arash Khakpour) are developing (or perhaps redeveloping?) Zahak, the Serpent King, aiming for a TBA premiere in November 2023, and recently had an "informal sharing" of the work-in-progress on June 28, following a residency in partnership with New Works and Vancouver Civic Theatres.

The Thrift Shop Sunshine People are coming!

The SCA's Stefan Smulovitz is hosting an exhibition of magical dolls and wall hangings by his mother, Contantia, on July 2, 2023, at 5:30 PM at The Gumboot Cafe​ (1053 Roberts Creek Rd., Roberts Creek), and he'll be playing music for the opening with Ron Samworth and Graham Ord, too. What a great son! Honestly, if you're into outsider art or just crafting, Contantia's Thrift Shop Sunshine People, many of which live throughout the offices of the SCA, are really something special.
