Soji-George and Obuwoma at Surrey

Black Arts Centre curator and SCA MA student Olumoroti (Moroti) Soji-George will be introducing a screening of films by SCA alumnus Fegor Obuwoma and a performance by Chipo Chipaziwa on October 8, 2022, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, in support of the exhibitions Concealed Cultures: Visualizing the Black Vernacular, which includes work by Obuwoma, and I see; I breathe; I am!, running concurrently at the Surrey Art Gallery from September 17 to December 11, 2022. Underhill on On The Coast

Listen to the SCA's Owen Underhill, who's also the Artistic Director and conductor of the Turning Point Ensemble, and Loren Balisky, co-founder and Director of Engagement of Kinbrace, "BC’s first and longest-serving housing and support community for refugee claimants," on CBC Radio's On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko, discussing the launch of TPE's season with Music of Displacement, a "tribute to Canadian immigrants" that shines "a light on international refugees," which took place September 17 and 18, 2022, at the Annex Theatre. Sniderman's Wierzba Estery/Esther's Willow

SCA PhD student Robert Yerachmiel Sniderman presented his project, Wierzba Estery/Esther's Willow, which forms part of his PhD work here, as a "happening" this summer as part of Kraków's FestivALT, which produced this short video to document the work. Watch it HERE.
