SCA dancers in Kaleidoscope

Please join us for Kaleidoscope, a FREE performance by first & second year SCA dancers on January 27 & 28, 2023, at 7:00 PM in Room 4650 (known as the Blonde Studio because of the wooden floor beneath the Marley surface) here in SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver). Come out! Also, if you're considering the SCA for your undergrad dance studies, this is a good chance to see some of our newest students at work, as well as some of the studios here at the GCA.  

Radul's Warmer Than The World Around Us

The SCA's Judy Radul is presenting Warmer Than The World Around Us, which was "originally produced onsite in Gwangju, South Korea, for the occasion of the 13th Gwangju Biennale," from February 9 – April 8, 2023, at Montréal's Dazibao gallery (5455, de Gaspé Ave., suite 109). More HERE.


The SCA's Miwa Matreyek and SCA alumni Amanda Sum, Adrienne Wong, Jeanette Kotowich, Luciana D'Anunciação, and Natalie Tin Yin Gan join Kelly McInnes and facilitator Dani Fecko for a roundtable discussion, The Emergent Realities of Care, on Saturday, February 4, at 3:00 PM at the Russian Hall (600 Campbell Avenue, Vancouver), presented as part of Theatre Replacement and Company 605's PushOFF 2023 INDUSTRY CONVOS, organized in partnership with Fascinator Management. Also, Matreyek, Sum, Wong, Kotowich, D'Anunciação, and Gan are all performing as part of PushOFF, as well.

Min on Yoon

Susette Min, Associate Professor at UC Davis, is giving a talk about the SCA's Jin-me Yoon’s work on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 2:00 PM in Room 4East at the Vancouver Art Gallery, where Yoon's exhibition, About Time, runs to March 5, 2023. More HERE.

Capture's schedule

Capture Photography Festival has announced its 2023 exhibition schedule, which includes Jin-me Yoon's Long Time So Long at the Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre from February 18 – April 30, SCA alumnus Vilhelm Sundin in a group exhibition with Roy Arden and Owen Kydd at Monte Clark from March 18 – April 20, and SCA MFA student Katie Kozak and SCA alumni Lucien Durey's Endless Summer at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art from April 15 – June 17.

SCA in the PuSh Youth Assembly

With Solid State Community Industries and our colleagues SFU Woodward's, we're co-presenting the 2023 PuSh Youth Assembly, which takes place Saturday, January 28, from 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, in the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre here at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver). SCA folks in the day's schedule are MA student Olumoroti Soji-George and SCA alumnus Ogheneofegor Obuwoma on the panel Centring Community Arts and the SCA's James Long, Erika Latta, and Ryan Tacata on the panel Intersections of Contemporary Performance Creation. The SCA's Dr. Henry Daniel is presenting a new work, Licht, on the theme of "light" on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Theater Pforzheim (Waisenhausplatz 5, 75172 Pforzheim, Germany). More HERE.

Fredriksson leads a Working Class

SCA alumnus Emmalena Fredriksson is leading a Working Class for Training Society of Vancouver on January 30 and February 1 & 3, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM, at The Dance Centre (677 Davie St., Vancouver). More HERE. The last set was lead by SCA alumnus Shion Skye Carter, and an upcoming set will be lead by SCA alumnus Jeanette Kotowich.

Tong's open studio

If you're in or near Bornholm Island, Denmark, SCA alumnus Yi Xin Tong is having an open studio to show his work-in-progress, Circular Dance to Death at Sea, on Saturday, January 27, 2023, at 7:00 PM with writer Steen Anderson, presented as part of Tong's Beast Residency.

Lee at the Queer Arts Festival

Great news! SCA alumnus Tamara Lee is the new Director of Development at the Queer Arts Festival! Congratulations, Tamara, and great choice, Queer Arts Fest! Also cool about this is that Tamara did a practicum with the Festival while a student with us, organized by Barbara Adler, the SCA's Professional Development Coordinator.

The Library Performance Collective's Passenger Seat

Starting tonight! Passenger Seat by The Library Performance Collective – which includes SCA alumni Arthi Chandra, Howard Dai, Hannah Meyers, and Montserrat Videla Samper and Isabella Halladay and Thule Van Den Dam, plus with SCA alumnus (and current SCA Production & Events Manager) Gillian Hanemayer on lights and stage managing – is running January 27 & 28, 2023, at 7:30 PM at the Metro Studio Theatre (1411 Quadra Street, Victoria), presented as part of Intrepid Theatre's OUTstages festival. Young talks An Undeveloped Sound

Electric Company Theatre's Jonathon Young was on CBC/Radio-Canada's North by Northwest to talk about An Undeveloped Sound, featuring SCA alumni Sophie Tang (Lighting Designer) and Scott Morgan / Loscil (Composer & Sound Designer) and current SCA students Jack Chipman (Media Integration) and Ruby Henderson (Performer). An Undeveloped Sound has PWYC previews on January 30 & 31 at 7:30 PM, its World Premiere on February 1 7:30 PM, and performances on February 2 – 4 & February 7 – 11, 2023, at 7:30 PM, co-presented with SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs & the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.
