Yousefbigloo in the 2022 Lind Prize Exhibition

Read a Stir Vancouver intro to the 2022 Lind Prize Exhibition, including SCA MFA (all-but-graduated) student Katayoon Yousefbigloo as one of the finalists, which runs December 10, 2022 – January 29, 2023, at The Polygon Gallery, with an Opening Celebration on December 15 at 7:00 PM, and a Closing Celebration on January 26 to announce the winner. SFMF at The Hmm

After being invited by the SCA's Laura U. Marks and the Small File team to be be on the jury for the 2022 edition of the SFMF, Amsterdam's The Hmm, "founded by Evelyn Austin and Lilian Stolk in 2016," are presenting their selections, "Rachel Stuckey’s film Solid State PSA, Monique Motut-Firth’s Data Dreaming, and BiglerWeibel’s work Adhäsion," at the "online-only event" IN low-low-res on December 14, 2022, at 8:00 PM (CET). The artists will be in virtual attendance, as well as "artist and researcher Rosa Menkman who will give a short talk on the history of compression and tiny files." More HERE.

Shihab in Ongoing2 Gathering

At the invitation of her mother Lahib Jaddo, who's in the show, too, the SCA's Nadia Shihab is part of the exhibition Ongoing2 Gathering, which runs until January 15, 2023, at the Fine Arts Gallery at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas (1801 Crickets Avenue). More HERE.

I had a dream about this place celebration

If you're in or around Montreal, NO HAY BANDA are having a show to celebrate the release of their debut album, I had a dream about this place, which includes compositions by the SCA's Mauricio Pauly and Sabrina Schroeder, on December 19, 2022, at La Sala Rossa (4848 St. Laurent Blvd.), with doors at 7:30 PM and music at 8:00 PM. With tickets at $10, $25 with the album (cash only at the door), and $5 only if you've already grabbed the album, NO HAY BANDA say Pauly, Andrea Young, and Daniel Áñez, and Felix Del Tredici – and maybe more! – will be performing, too. Slade and Hill in the Combine Art Fair

Catch Alfred Jarry (the duo of the SCA's Eldritch Priest and Brady Cranfield) in a Two Drum and Guitar Duos show with Adrian Avendaño and SCA alumnus Matthew Ariaratnam at 8EAST (8 East Pender St., Vancouver) on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Mochizuki's Autumn Strawberry (Dance Film)

Concluding a multi-year, multi-part arc, the Surrey Art Gallery (13750 88 Ave.) is presenting SCA alumnus Cindy Mochizuki's Autumn Strawberry (Dance Film), a "multilayered artwork" that grew out of her 2021 exhibition Autumn Strawberry and a two-month residency in 2019, from December 9, 2022, – April 30, 2023. Hubert, Tedlie-Stursberg, and Vickers at Trapp Projects

SCA alumni Steve Hubert, Alex Tedlie-Stursberg, and Charlene Vickers have all contributed work to Trapp Projects' 3rd Annual Exhibition & Fundraiser, running December 9 – 11, 2022, at 274 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver (entrance in the back alley), with "50% of proceeds going to the artists and 25% donated to the Vancouver Food Bank." SCA alumnus Joni Cheung (Snack Witch) is a contributor to Dean Baldwin Lew's Mixed Drinks project for Fonderie Darling: a "pocket-sized book" of "mixed drinks recipes submitted by over 50 local and international artists." Mixed Drinks was produced in response to Rirkrit Tiravanija's installation Untitled, Thomas Demand’s Here, which is part of Thomas Demand's exhibition HOUSE OF CARD, which runs until January 8, 2023, at MOCA Toronto.
