Yoon's About Time

Jin-me Yoon's floor-wide exhibition, About Time, opens tonight – Friday, October 14 – at the Vancouver Art Gallery and runs October 15, 2022 – March 5, 2023. Congratulations, Jin-me! More HERE.

BLOT in Bucharest

BLOT – Body Line of Thought, SCA alumnus Vanessa Goodman's collaboration with Simona Deaconescu, is being presented at the Centrul Naţional al Dansului Bucureşti in Bucharest, Romania, on October 29 and 30, 2022. More HERE.

Contreras at the Teck

SCA alumnus Adriana Contreras has work up in SFU Galleries' Teck Gallery (at SFU Harbour Centre | 515 W. Hastings St. Vancouver) as part of the two-part exhibition It's About Time: Dancing Black in Canada, which runs until December 9, 2022. More HERE.

Chien in STAND, is the 2022 Changemaker, and does Redbone Coonhound

SCA alumnus Sammy Chien (Chimerik 似不像) is offering a free workshop on November 5, 2022, from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Studio at the Presentation House Theatre (333 Chesterfield Avenue, North Vancouver), presented as part of the STAND Festival, "A Performing Arts Festival for Immigrant and Refugee Artists," co-presented by Blackout Art Society and Presentation House Theatre. Also, Chien won the BC Museums Association (BCMA) 2022 Changemaker Award, which "recognizes an outstanding effort and contribution with a lasting impact to the future of museums, galleries, archives and/or heritage resources fields." Lin at Dancing Resilience

SCA alumnus Shannon Lin will be presenting her paper, "Expressing to Escape: Dance/Movement Therapy as the Key to Transforming Incarcerated Spaces Inside and Out," at Dancing Resilience: Dance Studies and Actavism in a Global Age, the 2022 Annual Conference of the Dance Studies Association, which the SCA is co-presenting, on Saturday, October 15 from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM in Salon D at the Pinnacle Hotel (1133 W. Hastings St., Vancouver).

Carter's Residuals (住み・墨)

SCA alumnus Shion Skye Carter is presenting the Vancouver premiere of Residuals (住み・墨) on November 4 & 5, 2022, at &:00 PM at The Dance Centre (677 Davie St, Vancouver), co-presented by The Dance Centre’s Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award and the Powell Street Festival. On New Societies in Taipei

SCA alumnus Brian Postalian shared an article (first shared with him by SCA alumnus Howard Dai) in which Chen Youru, the director for the Taipei, Taiwan, staging of Re:Current Theatre's New Societies (which Postalian created with his SCA alumnus-heavy cast), speaks with a "game designer about the intersection of games and performance." Watch Richard Thériault from CBC/Radio-Canada on Surrey's Black Arts Centre, which includes SCA MA student Moroti Soji-George as one of its co-directors, as well as on the concurrent exhibitions I see; I breathe; I am! and Concealed Cultures: Visualizing the Black Vernacular at the Surrey Art Gallery from September 17 to December 11, 2022, which the team from the Black Arts Centre curated.
