Shihab's busy

Keep up with the SCA's Nadia Shihab! Her film Echolocation is screening at the Arab Film Festival on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 PM at Oakland's The New Parkway Theatre (and streaming from November 12 – 20), and at the MENA Film Festival at VIFF Centre (1181 Seymour St, Vancouver) on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:00 PM. Her film Amal’s Garden is screening November 24 at 4:00 PM the Festival international Jean Rouch – Comité du film ethnographique (Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac 222, rue de l'Université, Paris) as part of a special program focused on city portraits of Aleppo, Beirut, Alexandria, and Kirkuk. In non-film news, Shihab is also performing in two/fold, a sound performance with collaborator Szuhan Ho, on Sunday, November 20 at 1:00 PM at the Zilkha Gallery at Wesleyan University (283 Washington Terrace, Middletown).

Kitsos in Missed Connections

The SCA's Rob Kitsos is presenting work in Missed Connections, presented by Bellingham Repertory Dance, with shows on November 11 & 12 and 17 – 19, 2022. More HERE.

Eigenfeldt on Musebots and I

The SCA's Arne Eigenfeldt has a chapter, titled 'Musebots and I: Collaborating with Creative Systems,' in the book, The Language of Creative AI: Practices, Aesthetics and Structures, edited by Craig Vear and Fabrizio Poltronieri, which is part of the Springer Series on Cultural Computing. Read it HERE.

SCA alumnus Ghinwa Yassine has curated For a Spell at VIVO Media Arts Centre (2625 Kaslo St., Vancouver), an exhibition of works "created in the Artists as Artwork workshop series led by Ghinwa Yassine at VIVO Media Arts Centre," including by SCA MFA student Mena El Shazly, which runs Saturday, November 12 – Friday, December 9, 2022 (opening: November 12 at 5:00 PM). Stewart and Hammond at NACL

SCA alumnus Megan Stewart, joined by fellow SCA alumnus Julie Hammond, had a week long residency at the North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL) Theatre in Highland Lake, New York, ending with a presentation on Thursday, October 27, 2022, where they worked on the "early ideas for staging and performance of On Bread Time, a solo performance that explores loss, grief, and renewal between seasons of garlic and loaves of bread." Vickers in Cap Review and at an Open Studio

SCA alumnus Charlene Vickers is sharing Wauzhishk Onigum in Issue 3.48 (Fall 2022): S – Z of The Capilano Review, the third issue in celebration of their 50th Anniversary, and she is also holding an "open studio" with Robert Chaplin on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM at 237 Keefer St., Vancouver. F-O-R-M on ArtScape

Stir Vancouver shared the latest episode of SFU Woodward's podcast ArtScape, featuring Janice Beley talking with Sophia Mai Wolfe about the Festival of Recorded Movement (F-O-R-M), which features many SCA folks (in one way or another!), including Roya Pishvaei, Sarah U, Amanda Sum, Jullianna Oke, Amy Wilson, Anya Saugstad, Eowynn Enquist, Shion Skye Carter, Stefan Nazarevich, Emmalena Fredriksson, Luciana Freire D'Anunciaçã, and Jeanette Kotowich, with Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg as one of the festival's co-commissioning partners. Koochakzadeh-Yazdi curates Sound Palace

SCA alumnus Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi is the first curator of a new concert series, Sound Palace, by John Korsrud and the Hard Rubber Orchestra . Running Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM at the Vancouver Community College's KEC Auditorium (1155 East Broadway, Vancouver), the show includes SCA alumni Aysha Dulong (electronics) and Matthew Ariaratnam (guitar), SCA MFA student Kittie Cooper (electronics), the SCA"s Stefan Smulovitz (electronics), and Koochakzadeh-Yazdi herself (electronics), along with the rest of the skilled ensemble. Aoki in The 5 Elements

SCA alumnus Jennifer Aoki and Alex Tam are performing choreography by Chengxin Wei as part of the Little Pear Garden Dance Company's The 5 Elements dance film, which brings "to life the ancient Chinese philosophy of the 5 Elements, Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth." Fredriksson and Khakpour's You Touch Me

SCA alumnus and current SCA sessional instructor Emmalena Fredriksson and Arash Khakpour's You Touch Me, "an intricate web of duets within an ensemble of people who grew up far from here – and far from each other," runs December 8 – 10, 2022, at 8:00 PM at The Dance Centre (77 Davie St, Vancouver), with a post-show artist talkback on December 9, presented as part of The Dance Centre's Global Dance Connections 2022-2023 series.
