Matreyek talks Live Animation

The SCA's Miwa Matreyek joins Birgitta Hosea, Rose Bond, and Johannes DeYoung for Accelerate Session: Live Animation, which brings "together animation artists, producers and curators, in conversation about aspects of contemporary animation practice," live via Zoom on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 6:00 PM – 7:15 PM (UK time), presented by UK's Animate Projects. Stir on Hold On Let Go

FCAT Prize pix

The Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology​, our institutional home at SFU, shared some great pictures from the recent FCAT Awards ceremony, which included several SCA winners: the SCA's Erika Latta (Emerging Researcher Award) and Peter Dickinson (Service Award), and SCA alumni Arthi Chandra (Emerging Alumni Award) and Shauna-Kaye Brown (Teaching Assistant or Tutor Marker Teaching Award). Also at the event, the SCA Alumni Creative Production and Research Prize was awarded to SCA alumni Francisco Berlanga, Natalie Chan, and Opal McLean for their work on withintensions, a monthly online art magazine (the Prize was also renamed as The Opal McLean SCA Alumni Creative Production and Research Prize, or The Opal, in honor of McLean, who tragically died in a car accident in July, 2023). ⁠See them HERE.

Am Johal, who's the Director of SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement and an Associate Member of the SCA's faculty, has released a new book, O My Friends, There is No Friend: The Politics of Friendship at the End of Ecology, with Matt Hern, which is available now as "open access" from transcript Verlag.
