Good Latta news

The SCA's Erika Latta is participating in a Q&A panel with William Kentridge, Ivan Talijančić (School of Drama Professor at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, and Latta's longtime collaborator in WaxFactory), and MFA John Wells Directing Fellows, following the screening of Kentridge's work, The Head & the Load, which was recorded during its world premiere at the Tate Modern. Presented by the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, the screening of The Head & the Load is on March 27, 2022, at 9:00 AM and the Q&A panel is at 10:30 AM, Vancouver time. Also, Latta's and WaxFactory are part of HOME/LAND, which is a "collaborative and international creation" with Begat Theater and Hand2Mouth that will present the premiere of its "American version" from September 1 – 18, 2022, in Portland, Oregon. Saleken wins!

Great news! Amongst the the 2021 SFU Staff Achievement Award winners is our very own "exemplary employee," Corbin Saleken, who's the SCA's Film and Video Resource Specialist. Also on the list is Tessa Perkins Deneault, who's the Manager, Communications and Strategy for the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, which is our institutional home here at SFU. Congrats, all, but especially to Corbin and Tessa! More HERE.

Cheung in Nombreuses et numériques

SCA alumnus Snack Witch / Joni Cheung is part of the exhibition Nombreuses et numériques, which "offers a space for feminist reflection on the question of the place of people who do not identify as cis-male in the digital world by showcasing works by female, trans and/or non-binary artists who explore cyberspace through multimedia art." Curated by Gabrielle Sarthou and also including work by Olivia-Faye Lathuillière, Tannaz Keshavarzian, Eli Marcelli, and Léa Martin, the exhibition runs March 8 – 26, 2022, at Montreal's Espace 230 / Art Contemporain, and is presented as part of Conférence POST-INVISIBLES; regard sur la place des femmes dans le champ des arts visuels. Atiencia co-directs Clean/Espejos

SCA alumnus Daniela Atiencia and Chelsea Haberlin are the co-directors of Neworld Theatre's production of Christine Quintana's Clean/Espejos, with a translation and adaptation from Paula Zelaya-Cervantes, running March 10 – 19, 2022, at The Cultch. More HERE.

Calderon's GVPTA calls

SCA alumnus Davey Samuel Calderon, who's not only Playwrights Theatre Centre's Dramaturg, Public Engagement, but also the administrator assistant for the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, has asked us to share information about two GVPTA initiatives he's coordinating: the United General Auditions and Designers' Spotlight. The application deadline for both has been extended to March 10, 2022, at 12:00 PM (PST). If you have any questions, reach out to Davey at davey@gvpta.ca.

New book with Overstall

ECUAD's Julie Andreyev’s new book, Lessons from a Multispecies Studio: Uncovering Ecological Understanding and Biophilia through Creative Reciprocity, which describes the collaborative work of Andreyev and Simon Overstall, who's a current SCA PhD student, is being launched on March 6, 2022, at 11:00 AM (PST) via ZOOM. The SCA's Stefan Smulovitz produced the score for Company 605 / German Jauregui collaborative duo work, Albatross, which is running Friday, March 4 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 5, at 4:00 PM as part of the 2022 Vancouver International Dance Festival. More HERE.

Skoden calling Indigenous artists

The Skoden Indigenous Film Festival is calling SFU Indigenous artists to submit work to be displayed and sold during the two day screening event on April 1 & 2, 2022. Work must be appropriate to the subject: celebrating Indigenous pride as an Indigenous person! Submission deadline is Monday, March 14, 2022, at 11:59 PM (PST). More HERE.
