This NEW podcast is a lively series of conversations and interviews that delve into creative process and improvisatory approaches to jazz standards. Each episode features one of the songs on the LP: Natalie Brett Quartet: Standards. In episode one, our three hosts talk about how the impetus for the LP came out of Carol’s visual art project The Natalie Brettschneider Archive. A larger conversation ensues, about blending free improvisation with jazz standards; women composers; Tin Pan Alley; child prodigies; prepared pianos; and Megan’s blog about Kpop. Subsequent episodes will launch monthly, and include a three-part interview with renowned Vancouver bassist Clyde Reed.
