Marks talks CAMP

The SCA's Laura U. Marks gave the keynote lecture as part of CAMP Study Day on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the The Museum of Modern Art, presented in support of the exhibition Video After Video: The Critical Media of CAMP, which is at the MoMA until July 20, 2025. More HERE.

Town Choir at the VAG

Theatre Replacement’s Town Choir, conceived by TR's co-founders Maiko Yamamoto and the SCA's James Long, is performing as part of the Vancouver Art Gallery's Spring Art Party on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 8:00 PM – 11:30 PM, at the VAG (750 Hornby St, Vancouver). More HERE.

The Queer Arts Festival's Portals

The Queer Arts Festival + SUM gallery's Portals programming includes SCA alumni Kaila Bhullar, Liz Oakley, Niloufar Samadi, and Taryn Walker, and the SCA's Suze Shore as part of the Community Art Show, opening June 14 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the SUM gallery (#425 – 268 Keefer St, Vancouver), and running to June 28, 2025, as well as SCA alumnus Sena Cleave in the Curated Visual Art Exhibition: PORTALS at Centre A (Unit 205 – 268 Keefer St., Vancouver), which opens with their ArtParty! event on Saturday, June 21, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and running to August 23, 2025. Coach Chien

SCA alumnus (and Chimerik 似不像 Co-Artistic Director) Sammy Chien joins Vancouver New Music's Giorgio Magnanensi as Grant Coaches for Creative BC's Interactive Fund, which they say "supports the creation of high quality, original interactive digital media projects that support diversity in artistic expression, demonstrate clear connections between art and technology, and provide opportunities for access, dissemination, and engagement with audiences and within the B.C. arts and culture sector." The Fates II

Upcoming from the Active / Passive team: The Fates II, "a day-to-evening slow concert and dance party," on June 14, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM (doors at 2:30 PM), at a to-be-disclosed location (on Galiano Island), featuring SCA student Van Lefan and (we're proud to announce) incoming PhD student Sasha J. SCA alumnus Amanda Sum is opening for the The Shorties, who are celebrating the release of their album In Every Season, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM, at The Wise Hall & Lounge (1882 Adanac St, Vancouver). Read Pancouver on HEAVEN FM by Hong Kong Exile (the interdisciplinary arts company formed by SCA alumni Natalie Tin Yin Gan, Milton Lim, and Remy Siu), which premiered at the Vancouver Art Gallery. CERi Graduate Fellowship Program

SFU's Community-Engaged Research Initiative is calling for applications for their 2025/2026 CERi Graduate Fellowship Program. Here's the info: The CERi Graduate Fellowship Program is an 8-month, in-person, cohort-based program running from September to April. Hosted at SFU’s space at 312 Main in downtown Vancouver, this fellowship combines place-based learning, community connections, guest speakers, financial support, and professional development through monthly in-person workshops. Key benefits include: Funding to support your community-engaged research; mentorship and networking opportunities with CERi staff and affiliates; and access to tailored workshops and professional development sessions. The program is open to all registered SFU graduate students who are currently practicing or planning to conduct community-engaged research using CER methods. Live at the Gallery with the Burnaby Arts Council

The Burnaby Arts Council asked us to share that they've relaunched their "Live at the Gallery" series, which, they tell us, "happens every 3rd Saturday of the month, and includes a 1-hour open mic, followed by a feature performance," and also includes their "visual arts members to exhibit on our walls at Deer Lake Gallery." 1000xRESIST, the award winning video game produced by SCA alumnus Remy Siu and the Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客 team (featuring a bunch of SCA alumni in the production process, including Natalie Tin Yin Gan, Conor Wylie, Maiko Yamamoto, Felicia Lau, Amanda Sum, Anjela Magpantay, June Fukumura, Mahaila Patterson-O'Brien, Erika Mitsuhashi, and Alex Mah behind the scenes), have announced Blue Communion, a 1000xRESIST Fanzine, and a 3 LP 1000xRESIST Soundtrack Selections vinyl set, which are available to pre-order from Very Ok Vinyl. Stir Vancouver talks to SCA alumnus Howard Dai about Dream Machine, his "interactive work-in-development" that's part of Rumble Theatre's Tremors Festival, which runs June 6 – 8, 2025, at Progress Lab (1422 William St, Vancouver BC). SCA student Claine 'Gorgoth' Lamb and Misyrion are hitting the road again with Crown of Madness. Kanagawa in CCTA 2025

Arts & Climate Initiative just announced that SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa is one of the 50 Climate Change Theatre Action (CCTA) 2025 Playwrights. CCTA is "a worldwide festival of short plays about the climate crisis presented in the fall of every odd year," running September 19 to December 20, 2025. More on CCTA 2025 HERE.
