This is not new news to those of us working in the arts, but CBC News shared an update about how "the Arts sector contributes billions to Canadian economy," backed with hard economic facts from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, no less (read their report HERE). We can't help but think about Ireland's recent (and very pragmatic and wise) choice to permanently implement a basic income for artists here, too. Get with it, Canada! The Heart of the City Festival, which has SCA alumni Alexandra McDougall as Artistic Producer, is screening Nechako: It Will Be a Big River Again (Produced by Experimental Forest Films, the production company formed by SCA alumni Kathleen Hepburn & Tyler Hagan), on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 7:30 PM, in the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema here at SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts (149 W. Directed by SCA alumnus Kevin Jesuino, Theatre Terrific's Dance Floor Memoirs is running Friday, November 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Djavad Mowafaghian World Arts Centre, here at SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts (149 W. The Showerhead screening
We're happy to host the South African Film Festival's screening of The Showerhead on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 6:30 PM in the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema here at SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver), which will be followed by a Q&A with Zapiro and Craig Tanner, the film's director, moderated by Jean Teillet (board member and Vice-President of PEN Canada), and emceed by South African-born Canadian actress, Kandyse McClure.
