Chambers wins the Dean’s Convocation medal!
Great news! SFU's Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee (SGAAC) is awarding the SCA's Justine A. Chambers the Dean’s Convocation medal, which will be presented as part of the Convocation ceremony on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at SFU Burnaby. As part on the same ceremony, Barry Truax will be awarded a Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa. Congratulations!
Eigenfeldt on bass
We're big fans of how the SCA's Arne Eigenfeldt plays bass in extracurricular bands, so we were delighted to see this quick video of him holding down the low end for The Sound of Legends: Santana & Chicago, which takes place Friday, June 27, 2025, at 7:30 PM (doors at 7:00 PM) at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody). TPE plays Saariaho
To end their 2024-25 season, Turning Point Ensemble, which has the SCA's Owen Underhill as Artistic Director and conductor, is presenting music by Kaija Saariaho on Saturday, May 24 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, May 25 at 2:30 PM at the Annex Theatre (23 Seymour St, Vancouver). Get tickets HERE.
Stir on rEvolver Festival 2025: Works in Progress
Read Stir Vancouver on Upintheair Theatre's rEvolver Festival 2025: Works in Progress series, which includes The Mechanics of Intimacy, with SCA alumni Zoë Braithwaite as Creator/Director/Performer, Jae Gonzales and TJ Tan as Performers, and Tamlin Vetter as Stage Manager; Woman Against Gravity, directed by SCA alumnus Arthi Chandra; and SCA alumnus Garvin Chan as both the Co-Creator/Co-Director/Translator for 羅密歐與茱麗葉 | Romeo & Juliet and Co-producer for The Yoko Ono Cult. Wow! Big congratulations to Remy Siu and the Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客 team (featuring a bunch of SCA alumni in the production process, including Natalie Tin Yin Gan, Conor Wylie, Maiko Yamamoto, Felicia Lau, Amanda Sum, Anjela Magpantay, June Fukumura, Mahaila Patterson-O'Brien, Erika Mitsuhashi, and Alex Mah behind the scenes), for their Peabody Awards win in the "Interactive" category for 1000xRESIST.
Secret Ingredients in Halifax
Originally developed through Theatre Replacement's COLLIDER residency, SCA alumnus Keely O'Brien is bringing Secret Ingredients, her free cake delivery service project, to Halifax, presented as part of Eastern Front Theatre's Stages performance festival on June 6 & 7, 2025. More HERE.

SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa's stage adaptation of Mark Sakamoto's Forgiveness is being presented as part of the Stratford Festival, opening June 18 and running to September 27, 2025, with preview showings starting May 23. Kanagawa is also part of the cast, as well as SCA alumnus June Fukumura, and SCA alumni Cindy Mochizuki (original Illustrations and Animations) and Sammy Chien (Projection Designer) worked behind the scenes.
