Saadatpajouh's NWXR 2025: Beyond the Stage
SCA MFA student Avideh Saadatpajouh is presenting a free "open studio sharing" of the work done for New Works' NWXR 2025: Beyond the Stage on Sunday, March 30, at 2:00 PM at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver), with an Artist Talkback at 3:00 PM. Working with SCA MFA student Sarah Finn, SCA alumni Ghazal Majidi, and Alexa Mardon as co-facilitators and the SCA's Justine A. Chambers as an "external eye," Saadatpajouh lead a series of workshops "exploring how movement, extended reality (XR), and sensory experiences can transform urban spaces into participatory landscapes." Participants in the workshops included SCA alumnus Kevin Jesuino, SCA student Samira Banihashemi, and Sam Davis, Andy Dongan Liu, Lance Lim, Mermaid Li, Danielle Mackenzie Long, Ove Holmqvist, nazanin oghanian, Aleksandar Zecevic, Kaili Joei Che, and Kira Radosevic. Honorary degrees for Truax and Kunuk
It's always nice to see the deserving candidates for honorary degrees from SFU, which are given out as part of the regular Convocation events. This time, we'd like to highlight two of the recipients: Barry Truax, who was nominated by the SCA's Arne Eigenfeldt, will receive his degree as part of the ceremony on Wednesday, June 11, while Zacharias Kunuk, who was nominated by the SCA's Simone Rapisarda, will receive his as part of the ceremony in October. Pavsek's As Grey Falls and The Latest News from Deseret
The SCA's Chris Pavsek's As Grey Falls is screening on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 3:15 PM at the Robert Brent Auditorium in the Sebastopol Center for the Arts (282 S. High St., Sebastopol) as part of the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival. Also on Sunday, March 30, but at 2:30 PM, Pavsek's The Latest News from Deseret is screening at the Michigan Theater (603 E. Liberty St., Ann Arbor) as part of the Ann Arbor Film Festival.
Yoon's Scholarly Impact of last Week
Sure, being a recipient of a "Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts for Artistic Achievement," which is "Canada’s highest honour of artistic excellence and outstanding contributions to visual and media arts," might be a great honor, of course. But to top it off, the SCA's Jin-me Yoon was also the focus of last week's Scholarly Impact of the Week. All joking aside, read more HERE.

The VASU Art Sale is back and happening on April 8, 2025, from 3:30 PM – 9:00 PM on the fourth floor of the SCA (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver)!
We’re looking for participants to showcase and sell their artwork. This opportunity is open to students and alumni working in any medium.

- We’ll assist with setup, takedown, and event supervision.
- You (or a representative) must be present at your table during the sale.
