The SCA's Mauricio Pauly (Chromaharp, Lapsteel, Live Sampling and Processing, Bass) joins Eve Egoyan (Acoustic and Augmented Piano), Lisa Cay Miller (Piano, Nord, Moog Matriarch), and Kenton Loewen (Drums) for an evening of mix-and-match improvised music with the players in different combinations on July 26, 2025, from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM at 8EAST (8 E. Eyes of the Beast press

The Midnight Parade

So far, we've confirmed that SCA alumni Blake Hobson-Dimas (director, co-creator, and performer) and Aisha Wewala (performer) are part of The Midnight Parade, co-presented by Foolish Productions and Head Full of Rocks (with Hobson-Dimas as Artistic Director / Lead Costume Designer), which runs July 4 – 6, 2025, at The Shop Theatre (8877 Selkirk St., Vancouver. SCA alumnus Sandra Medeiros is directing the Deep Cove Stage Society's production of Kristen Da Silva's Five Alarm, running June 6 – 20, 2025, at 7:30 PM, with 2:00 PM shows on June 8, 15, and 21 at 4360 Gallant Ave., North Vancouver. More HERE.

Spirit Gravity

SCA alumnus Rebecca Bruton has launched Spirit Gravity, a new "independent label and music publisher located in Calgary, Alberta, with a focus on creating live scores for screen-based media," starting with three collaborative recordings Bruton made with Meredith Bates, Kurt Newman, and Katie Streibel, respectively. Access and Disability Justice: Mosaic Mending

The Only Animal, which has SCA alumnus Barbara Adler as Artistic Director, is hosting the free event, Access and Disability Justice: Mosaic Mending with Megan Dewar, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre (5714 Medusa St., Sechelt). In other The Only Animal news, SCA alumnus Stevan Oostenburg hosted an open studio at the Kiosk Mobile Studio, located in the surrounding growing space at Persephone Brewing (1053 Stewart Rd., Gibsons), where he worked with various eco-dyes for fabrics and did field recordings. Nechako: It Will Be A Big River Again

Produced by Experimental Forest Films (the production company formed by SCA alumni Kathleen Hepburn & Tyler Hagan), Nechako: It Will Be A Big River Again, written directed by Lyana Patrick, is screening at the VIFF Centre (1181 Seymour St, Vancouver) from June 6 – 21, 2025, the last night coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Day. VBTAF celebrates Juneteenth

In recognition of Juneteenth, a federal holiday in the United States also celebrated by Black Canadians that commemorates June 19, 1865, when (according to Wikipedia) "Major General Gordon Granger "ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War," the Vancouver Black Therapy & Advocacy Foundation, with new SCA alumnus Bethlehem Mulat as Founder & Director, shared a summary of some of their accomplishments on their Instagram as they also mark 5 years of good work – so far! Also, Mulat "shared her insights on how the surge of allyship has masked a deeper, systemic issue in the long-standing underinvestment in Black communities" in a recent article, "The True Cost of Performative Allyship," by the Network for the Advancement of Black Communities. Watch SCA alumnus Remy Siu's acceptance remarks at the 85th Annual Peabody Awards, where 1000xRESIST, the indie video game produced by Siu and the Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客 team (featuring a bunch of SCA alumni in the production process, including Natalie Tin Yin Gan, Conor Wylie, Maiko Yamamoto, Felicia Lau, Amanda Sum, Anjela Magpantay, June Fukumura, Mahaila Patterson-O'Brien, Erika MitsuhashiAlex Mah, Norman Armour, and the SCA's James Long), won in the "Interactive" category.
