Peters passes interplay_ to MacCaull
Making it official, SCA alumnus Deanna Peters "passed the torch" to SCA alumnus Caroline MacCaull for interplay_ during New Works' NWXR event on Sunday, March 30, at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. interplay_ also launched their new Peters-designed website, announced a partnership with New Works' XR program, and opened the call for interplay_2026. Chambers, Goodman, and Helten for International Dance Day
The Dance Centre's 2025 International Dance Day programing on Tuesday, April 29, includes the SCA's Justine A. Chambers' "performative lecture" The Brutal Joy from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM, and SCA alumnus Vanessa Goodman's (Action at a Distance) between the landings (also running as a video installation version at the Dance Centre until April 30) and SCA alumnus Rachel Helten's Artemis’ Embrace at 800 Robson Plaza. Raymond Roussel, the new "weird jazz" trio of the SCA's Eldritch Priest and Brady Cranfield and James Meger) is opening for the Tom Wherrett on April 13, 2025, at 8:00 PM (doors at 7:30 PM) at The Hargrove (Back Alley Entrance, 150 E 3rd Ave, Vancouver), presented as #5 in the Lost Dog Sundays series. SCA alumnus and Gallery Gachet curator Olumoroti Soji-George in collaboration with the good team at ECU's Libby Leshgold Gallery are presenting a screening of Ousmane Sembène's La noire de... / Black Girl (1966) and a talk by Africanist film theorist Afi Venessa Appiah on April 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM at ECU's Reliance Theatre (Emily Carr University of Art + Design, 520 E 1st Ave., Vancouver). This event is presented in support of Prelude……Venus Lives!, an exhibition of public art by Afi Venessa Appiah, Kariyana Calloway-Scott, and Praise Etiosa Godswill, curated by Moroti George. Prairie Thunder in Flash
Running April 3 – May 31, 2025, Prairie Thunder, the exhibition at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2 – 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) that includes SCA alumnus Michelle Sound, is also part of the Flash Photographic Festival, which spans multiple galleries and spaces. More HERE.
Kong curates for Who Roams the Earth
SCA alumnus Yani Kong collaborated with Cinevolution Media Arts to curate Who Roams the Earth, a full day of free screenings in celebration of National Canadian Film Day, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond). As Kong tells us, "This year’s program is both a foray into filmmaking in Canada, and a cinematic journey into living worlds beyond the human universe, from alpine pastures to desert skies to otherworldly perspectives." Speculations Within and Beyond the Black Fantastic
Olumoroti Soji-George, an SCA alumnus and Co-Director of Surrey's Black Art Centre, wrote a text about Speculations Within and Beyond the Black Fantastic, a public art exhibition with Kriss Munsya and Ngadi Smart, running April 1 – July 21, 2025, at the Black Arts Centre (#105 – 10305 City Pkwy., Surrey), that's presented as part of this year's Capture Photography Festival. Silverfox and Sound at Château de Cerisay
Here's a watercolour by SCA alumnus Krystle Silverfox done while on an artist residency at the Château de Cerisay, a "sprawling French estate just north of Le Mans, France." Based on her Instagram posts, it seems SCA alumnus Michelle Sound was participating in the residency at the same time, too. Find out more about the Château de Cerisay, which looks bonkers nice, HERE.

SCA alumnus Anya Allegra Saugstad is presenting her dance film Mountains, which includes SCA alumni Eowynn Enquist and Shion Skye Carter with Daria Mikhaylyuk, Nasiv Sall, and Sabine Raskin as dancers, as part of New Works' International Dance Day on Screen event on April 29, 2025, from 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM, in the Montalbano Family Theatre at the Vancouver Public Library's Central Library (350 West Georgia St., Vancouver). PTC's Public Workshops
Playwrights Theatre Centre (PTC) have announced their next series of Public Workshops hosted by the PTC team, past and present, including SCA alumnus Davey Calderon's "The Show Will Go On: The Basics of Running a Smooth Event" on May 29, SCA alumnus Melanie Yeats' "Writing Scenes of Intimacy… beyond 'they kiss'" on June 5 & 12, and Heidi Taylor's TBD "Mapping a Creative Project: Out of your head and into the world," plus Joanna Garfinkel's "Writing From Real History – Including Your Own" on June 19 & 26, and Deborah Vogt's "Writing Book and Lyrics for New Musicals 101" on June 24 and "Book, Music, Lyrics… and Dramaturgy: Collaboration in Musical Theatre" on June 25.
