BATIA SUTER
PARALLEL ENCYCLOPEDIA EXTENDED
NOVEMBER 2, 2018 — JANUARY 13, 2019
The Polygon Gallery, 101 Carrie Cates Ct, North Vancouver, BC
Opening reception: November 1, 8pm

This photographic installation marks the first North American exhibition by Swiss visual artist and bookmaker Batia Suter. Recently exhibited at The Photographers’ Gallery, London and Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt in conjunction with the 2018 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize, Suter’s installation explores salient themes in contemporary photography, such as the archive and the legibility of images with digital proliferation. Suter’s constellation of photographic reproductions are drawn from thousands of books. In response to the gallery’s location in a rainforest landscape, she will produce a large-scale collage of nature images. Based in the Netherlands, Suter has published numerous artist books and has exhibited widely, most recently at Le Bal in Paris that extended to photographic murals in a railway station.
