Britta Wirthmüller

The SCA would like to welcome choreographer and dancer Britta Wirthmüller, who is a visiting scholar from the Inter-University Center for Dance (Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin or HZT) in Berlin, on a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Wirthmüller will be using the SCA as her Canadian homebase as she does research on the German choreographer, dancer, artistic director, and teacher Ruth Elly Abramovitsch Sorel, who lived and worked in Montréal, Quebec, from 1944 to 1955. As Wirthmüller describes it, her project, Tracing Ruth Sorel, explores "notions of distance & proximity, history & present, the personal & the global through the dancing body and choreography." While at SFU, Britta will be working closely with the SCA's Henry Daniel on her research, helping to establish closer connections between the SCA and the HZT. Welcome, Britta!
