Walkley wins the Lola

Congratulations to SCA alumnus Helen Walkley, who's the 2022 recipient of the Lola Award, which is "supported by the Lola McLaughlin Endowment Fund with the Vancouver Foundation and administered by The Dance Centre." Hill's Dream Machine Filmmaking Camp

The SCA's Steven Hill's Leaky Heaven Performance Society is running a FREE Dream Machine Filmmaking Camp for kids (ages 8 – 12, with a $50 honorarium), running Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 19 – August 11, 2022, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Russian Hall (600 Campbell Ave., Vancouver). Bridge's Habitus Fragments

SCA alumnus Beau Han Bridge shared some documentation images from Habitus Fragments, a 50-min looped "exploration on the architectural auras of Vancouver's Historic Chinatown through cinematic gesture and film-theatre aesthetics," which is just ending it's run on the screen array in our lobby here at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. Vickers in FULL CIRCLE

SCA alumnus Charlene Vickers is one of the participating artists in the Thought Train Collective's FULL CIRCLE project, running Sunday, July 31, 2022, at 2:00 PM, which is "an exchange with the Cambodia Children's Fund (CCF)" that looks at the symbolism and "history of the steam train and its significance to the Industrial Revolution." Buston and Meyers' Lo-fi Spectacle Club does Exquisite Pressure

SCA alumni Marina Buston and Hannah Meyers, who are behind the performance collective Lo-fi Spectacle Club, are hosting the first iteration of What Lab's new performance residency opportunity, Exquisite Pressure. Here's what What Lap have to say about it:

ExP is a performance residency culminating in a public showcase. Each artist, company, or collective is given 25 hours of studio time and a paid stipend to create a 10-15 minute work-in-progress piece, to be shared at a public showing. Each round of ExP is hosted by a different local company or collective, and we excited to announce our first round is hosted by the wonderful Lo-fi Spectacle Club!⁠
