Priest and Rapisarda level up

Shihab and Dubois screening

The SCA's Nadia Shihab's Echolocation is playing the Mimesis Documentary Festival, which runs August 2 – 7, 2022, in Boulder, Colorado, and online. More HERE. Also, Echolocation, along with SCA alumnus Hannah Dubois' And Ingrid, is screening as part of DOXA Documentary Film Festival's Outdoor Summer Screenings programming as part of the "Due Home: Shorts Program" on Friday, August 12, 2022, at 9:00 PM at the Vancouver Public Library's Central Branch (Dilawri Square at the corner of Robson and Homer). Boisjoly talks Resisting Mastery

The SCA's Raymond Boisjoly gave a "livestream" talk, “Resisting Mastery," on July 18, 2022, for the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA)'s MFA in Studio Arts program. More HERE.

Latta in Split

The SCA's Erika Latta has been sharing some great photos of her time in Split, Croatia, at the Contemporary Performance Practice workshop, running July 11 – 23, 2022, which includes Latta's WaxFactory collaborator, Ivan Valentin Talijancic, as one of the instructors. Cleaning, reorganizing, and renovating at the SCA

Thanks to the hard work of Andrew Curtis, the SCA's Resource Specialist at 611 Alexander, and his crew, the graduate student studio area at the SCA's Visual Art Studios at 611 Alexander St. have had a massive upgrade. Take a look at this quick video tour by the SCA's Joseph Malbon. Watch it HERE. Also, the SCA's Wladimiro A. Woyno R and his crew are cleaning and reorganizing the wood shop here at the SCA. Smulovitz goes 8 channel

The SCA's Stefan Smulovitz is debuting his new "wormhole system" for an "8 channel" show with Grainwing, Kerub, and Postdrag on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at LanaLou's (362 Powell St, Vancouver). More HERE.

Coming sooner than one might think! Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Theatre Replacement's East Van Panto at The Cultch, presenting The Little Mermaid, featuring SCA alumnus Amanda Sum as the Mermaid, is already deep at work for its wintertime run, from November 16, 2022, to January 1, 2023. Angus, Chien, and MacCaull in Berlin

If you're in or around Berlin, SCA alumnus Britt Angus and Chaos Emblematic, the Berlin-based art collective she co-founded and is the artistic director of, are hosting Summer Showcase events on August 19 & 20, 2022, with SCA alumni Sammy Chien and Caroline MacCaull's Chimerik 似不像 performing with Kazuma Glen Motomura on August 19. More HERE.

Liquidation World's Wong Wave Art Swap & Open Mic

Presented as part of the 2022 edition of Unit/Pitt Society for Art & Critical Awareness' Wrong Wave Festival, this year's curators, Liquidation World (a.k.a. SCA MFA student Katayoon Yousefbigloo, SCA PhD student Dave Biddle, and Maya Beaudry), are holding an Art Swap & Open Mic at Vancouver's Sunset Terrace (2028 Clark Drive) on Sunday, July 24, from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM. ART SWAP

We set up a few tables in the back (flea market style)
You set up a little booth with your art, t-shirts, zines, music, art supplies, books, etc etc etc “we take everything & everything must go!”
You make the sale/swap (Ca$h, e-transfer, art, etc)
We will NOT be involved in the sales and will not be taking any cut, you keep it all!
Attendees: feel free to bring some stuff in a backpack to trade with vendors!

Firehall Arts Centre shared a peak of their 2022-23 Season, which also marks their 40th anniversary. Included is the world premiere of rice & beans theatre’s Happy Valley, created by SCA alumnus and rice & beans co-founder, Derek Chan, running from May 27 to June 4, 2023. More HERE.

rice & beans' Polyphonic Translation Residency

rice & beans theatre, which has SCA alumnus Pedro Chamale as its Artistic Director, is "seeking proposals from multilingual theatre artists and translators across Canada" for their new Polyphonic Translation Residency, running May 31 – June 9, 2023. Bruton at the SPHERE Festival

SCA alumnus Rebecca Bruton and Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir have been co-commisioned to create 'a shimmering ornament of silt', a "sound installation featuring ocean fossil time, the prehistoric drift record of silt, and the ephemerality of river hólmi," for the National Arts Centre Orchestra's SPHERE Festival in Ottawa this September.
