SCA @ Dancing on the Edge

There are many SCA folks in this year's Dancing on the Edge Festival, including light-bearer by SCA alumni Billy Marchenski; PAM by CAMP, which includes SCA alumni Eowynn Enquist; Two by Wen Wei Dance, featuring music by SCA alumni Stefan Nazarevich; Mama, do we die when we sleep? by Rachel Meyer, which includes music by SCA + SIAT alumni James Maxwell; Initial Response and Reconfiguration by Peter Smida, which includes music by SCA alumni Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi; Flow Tide by SCA alumni Shion Skye Carter and Stefan Nazarevich; Become, this earthly plane by Kelly McInnes, which includes music by SCA alumni Alex Mah and Cinematography and Editing by SCA alumni Luciana D’Anunciação; TUNING by SCA alumni Vanessa Goodman; and last but not least, The Threshing Floor, which is pictured above, by the SCA's Rob Kitsos and Mauricio Pauly and SCA student Beau Han Bridge, with SCA alumni Anya Saugstad as one of the performers. Fraser's Juicy Jems Cabaret

SCA alumni Alexa Fraser, Dominique Samuels, and theatrecorps have announced Juicy Jems Cabaret, which aims "to celebrate and elevate plus sized and fat professional cabaret artists," set to take place online this July. Find out more HERE.

Mutable Subject's interplay_2021

SCA alumni Deanna Peters' Mutable Subject, working with fellow co-curators SCA alumni Sammy Chien, Tasha Faye Evans, and khattieQ, have announced the participants in their interplay_2021 programming, with online events scheduled for September 23 & 24, 2021: "Sidi Chen (ritual performance); Find Mutya (experimental video, music, movement, poetry, textiles); Brandy Leary (choreographic research, videography); Kıvanç Tatar w/ Tamar Tabori (creative artificial intelligence, dance); Raj Gill (multidisciplinary performance art); Stéphanie Cyr w/ Ted Littlemore (site-specific performance)." Congrats to Robinson – and talks historical musics & Indigenous resurgence

Congratulations to SCA alumni Dylan Robinson, whose excellent, crucial, and timely 2020 book, Hungry Listening: Resonant Theory for Indigenous Sound Studies, published by University of Minnesota Press, has won both the "best first book" award from the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association and "best book" award from Canadian Theatre Research and Performance Association! Also, watch SCA alumni Robinson in conversation with Early Music Vancouver's 2021 summer artist-in-residence, Jonathon Adams, mezzo-soprano Marion Newman, and multi-disciplinary theatre artist Reneltta Arluk, about historical musics & Indigenous resurgence for Early Music Vancouver. Sounds' WEDGE RESIDENCY

SCA alumni Michelle Sound is beginning a WEDGE RESIDENCY, which is an initiative by the Contemporary Art Gallery and Ground Floor that provides "participants with a stipend, semi-private studio space, and support to further develop their practice, as well as the opportunity to expand their connections to a wider arts community in Vancouver." Submit to ReIssue

Consider submitting to ReIssue magazine, "an interdisciplinary art writing platform focused on shaping and sustaining a contemporary west coast discourse rooted in critical engagement with experimental art practices," edited by SCA alumni Casey Wei. They accept "content pitches on an ongoing basis for the following sections: Interviews, Essays, Creative, Moving Image, Reviews." More HERE.
