Daniel in Community Making and Black Flourishing Through the Scarborough Charter

The SCA's Dr. Henry Daniel is moderating a panel, Negotiating for Black Flourishing within Academic Institutions, as part of Community Making and Black Flourishing Through the Scarborough Charter, a set of talks and panels on May 14, 2022, from 2:00 PM – 5:45 PM (PDT), both in-person at UBC Robson Square (800 Robson Street) and via Livestream. The SCA's Albert St. Albert Smith and SCA PhD student Edward Sembatya are both also performing as part of the event. Yoon on the shortlist

The SCA's Jin-me Yoon has made it to the shortlist for the 2022 Scotiabank Photography Award, which is "Canada’s largest and most prestigious peer-nominated prize for lens-based art," with the winner receiving "$50,000 in cash, a solo Primary Exhibition at the 2023 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, and a book of their artwork published and distributed worldwide by Steidl of Germany." Dongnier in Barcelona

The SCA's NiNi Dongnier is giving an artist talk and a presentation of her work as part of Mei Huang and Jaume Suau Martínez’s new book publishing and panel discussion, China Today: Minorities, Culture and Society, on May 18, 2022, co-organized by the Department of Art History at the University of Barcelona and the Inter Asia Research Group, Autónoma University Barcelona. Shihab's Jaddoland

The SCA's Nadia Shihab's film Jaddoland is screened on US public television on May 12, 2022, on the WORLD Channel's America ReFramed series, presented in partnership with the Migrant Madonna exhibition at LA's SOLA Contemporary, which closes May 14.

Tabassinejad's Game [2Vancouver]

SCA alumnus Pegah Tabassinejad presented Game [2Vancouver] on May 12, 2022, at VIVO Media Arts Centre. Game [2Vancouver] is an "interactive performance to explore questions of place, desire, boundaries and ways in which we relate to others," featuring Tabassinejad "wandering around the city," accompanied by SCA alumnus Aryo Khakpour as a camera operator. Tabassinejad will be in conversation with Sam Kinsley, Marzieh Mossavarzadeh, and Nastaran Saremy about the work on Sunday, May 15, at 2:00 PM at VIVO. More HERE

SCA alumni Sarah U 余衍晴 and Garvin Chan and current SCA students Teighan Hauff and Lauren Han are participating in the 2022 edition of IGNITE! Youth-Driven Arts Festival, which runs May 18 – 22, 2022, at The Cultch's historic theatre. More HERE.

Iguana, the new album by Vancouver's Hard Rubber Orchestra, lead by John Korsrud, includes SCA alumnus James O'Callaghan's composition a bilateral, a symmetry. Check it out on Bandcamp.

Ziyian Kwan's Spells For Chinatown, featuring SCA alumnus Shion Skye Carter and Marisa Antoinette Gold and jo passed, Juolin Lee, Sarah Wong, Justin Calvadores, Ralph Escamillan, Kage Eileen, and Lisa Gelley Martin, is being presented again on Thursday May 19 and Sunday May 29, 2022, at 5:00 PM at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in celebration of Asian Heritage Month, co-produced by Dumb Instrument Dance, the Powell Street Festival, and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. SCA alumnus Laiwan is a panelist in the Or Gallery's multipart symposium and screening Unmoored, Adrift, Ashore on May 19 — May 21, 2022, organized by Jamie Hilder (ECUAD), Anselm Franke (HKW), Denise Ryner (Or Gallery), and Jordan Wilson (NYU). Angus' call

SCA alumnus Britt Angus is working on an "interdisciplinary project combining visual art, dance, music and film," and is searching for "a visual artist, ideally with an overhead-projector who is interested in exploring painting in conversation with two dancers," with the goal of creating "a psychedelic immersive experience which will evolve to become a live performance and workshop." The planned shooting date is June 24 – 26, 2022.
