Silverfox makes the longlist

SCA alumnus Krystle Silverfox is on the longlist for the 2022 Sobey Art Award. Congratulations, Krystle!  

Shihab in the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival

If you're down in LA, make the time to catch the SCA's Nadia Shihab's film Echolocation, which is screening Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 7:00 PM as part of the shorts program "The Look and Sound of Truth" in the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. Shihab is also on a FREE panel with Ana Carrizales, Carmen Pollard, and moderator Sarah Shamash about Filmmaking and Motherhood on May 8, 2022, presented by the DOXA Documentary Film Festival. Bitter / Weber in Spaces of No Control

The SCA's Sabine Bitter and her longtime collaborator Helmut Weber were part of a panel discussion and screening, Spaces of No Control, on May 03, 2022, at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York. This event follows up on the exhibition, Space of No Control, which ran October 1, 2020 – February 19, 2021, at the Austrian Cultural Forum, too, featuring Bitter / Weber, Tony Cokes, VALIE EXPORT, Hans Haacke, Francis Ruyter, Taryn Simon, and Kay Walkowiak, and curated by Walter Seidl. Ghosh teaching pottery

SCA alumnus Aakansha Ghosh is teaching beginner and intermediate pottery at Café au Clay (1612 W. 3rd Ave., Vancouver). More HERE.

Tabassinejad's Game [2Vancouver]

SCA alumnus Pegah Tabassinejad is presenting Game [2Vancouver] on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 7:00 PM at VIVO Media Arts Centre (2625 Kaslo St. Vancouver, BC). Admission is FREE. Game [2Vancouver] is an "interactive performance to explore questions of place, desire, boundaries and ways in which we relate to others," featuring Tabassinejad "wandering around the city," accompanied by SCA alumnus Aryo Khakpour as a camera operator. Tabassinejad will be in conversation with Sam Kinsley, Marzieh Mossavarzadeh, and Nastaran Saremy about the work on Sunday, May 15, at 2:00 PM at VIVO. Valentine-Lewis curates Tkaczyk

SCA alumnus Andrea Valentine-Lewis curated a distance, a heart felt, an exhibition by Eric Tkaczyk, which is opening tonight (May 6, 2022) at 6:00 PM at Duplex Artist Society (1889 Franklin Street), and then available by appointment until the May 25. SCA in rEvolver

Upintheair Theatre's 2022 rEvolver Festival has good SCA alumni representation, both on and off stage: including Torien Cafferata in Controller; Arthi Chandra, Howard Dai, Hannah Meyers, and Montserrat Videla Samper in Passenger Seat; sound design support for Holy Moly by Stefan Nazarevich; Sena Cagla, Howard Dai, Alexa Fraser, Evan Medd, Hannah Meyers, Brian Postalian, Pascal Reiners, Amanda Sum, Meagan Woods, Montserrat Videla Samper, Christian Ching, and Stefan Nazarevich in Rumble Theatre's New Societies; and Pedro Chamale and Derek Chan as participants in Real Talks. Lavery on Lippard

SCA alumnus Lauren Lavery read Lucy Lippard's I See / You Mean during her month-long artist residency at The Sointula Art Shed. Durey is an undecimals admin

SCA alumnus Lucien Durey is one of the "admins" of the "mail art exchange project" undecimals, which has just sent out the "first crop of postcards for the 2022 Handshake exchange," which follows these parameters: "Artists are assigned a month during which to prepare an audio file to share with the group. The tracks are not attributed to individuals until the exchange ends, encouraging speculation and guesswork." This iteration includes Alison S. M. Kobayashi, Antoine Bédard, Bopha Chhay, Brennan Kelly, Chance Lovett, Kosisochukwu Nnebe, Lillian O'Brien Davis, Lyndl Hall + Richard Clements, Nina Platiša, Patrick Cruz, Rose Butch, and Vanessa Brown. Frewer and Mitsuhashi sell out!

All three shows of the plastic orchid factory's presentation of Francesca Frewer and SCA alumnus Erika Mitsuhashi's The shape of something changes as you move through it – featuring sound by Jack Jutson and Liam Butler of the Pender Street Steppers, costumes by SCA alumnus Jae Woo Kang, SCA student Jack Chipman as technical director and also working with Mitsuhashi on projection design and with the SCA's Kyla Gardiner on lighting design – are now sold out. Congrats!

The Biting School in Here For Now vol. 3

The Biting School, which is SCA alumnus Aryo Khakpour and his brother Arash Khakpour, are part of Here For Now vol. 3 on May 20 & 21, 2022, with shows at 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM (plus a "Social Hour" from 11:00 PM – 12:00 AM) at Slice Next Door (1636 Venables St., Vancouver). Kanagawa on Asian American History 101 and in Yellow Fever

SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa was a guest on the Asian American History 101 Podcast in celebration of Asian Heritage Month in Canada. Listen HERE. Kanagawa is also performing in Firehall Arts Centre's presentation of R.A. Shiomi's Yellow Fever, running May 28 – June 12, 2022. More HERE.

SCA MFA student Mena El Shazly's video version of The Welcoming – which was a performance that ran from February 24 – 26, 2022, by SCA students Emma Savic Kallesoe, Rebecca Kabesh, Deborah Koesyonoe, Brittany Martyshuk, Ali McDougall, Marita Michaelis, Michelle Shen, Tamlin Vettere, Samantha Walters, Liam Wilkins, and Alexander Zavorotny, and directed by the SCA's Ryan Tacata – is being presented on the grunt gallery curated Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen (MPCAS) from April 15 – October 15, 2022

SCA alumnus Deanna Peters is performing as part of Vancouver Improvised Arts Society’s one day multidisciplinary Listen, Listen Festival, which runs June 2 – 3, 2022, at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.
