Urban Subjects' From Necessity and Love

Urban Subjects, the "cultural research collective" of the SCA's Sabine Bitter and Jeff Derksen and Helmut Weber, is presenting From Necessity and Love: Trajectories of Communal Possibilities at FFT Düsseldorf's PLACE INTERNATIONAL, from Wednesday, September 29 – Friday, November 1, 2021. The SCA's Wladimiro A. Woyno Rodriguez is doing Projection Design for Will Eno's Wakey Wakey, presented by the Pacific Theatre from October 1 – 23, 2021. More HERE.

Congratulations to SCA alumni Natalie Murao and Hân Phạm, who were both selected for the Vancouver International Film Festival's 2021 Catalyst Cohort of their Catalyst Mentorship Program. More HERE.

The Darlings at TRANSFORM

The Darlings, a Vancouver-based "multidisciplinary, non-binary drag performance collective," which includes SCA dance alumni Desi Rekrut, whose stage-name is P.M., are part of the TRANSFORM Cabaret festival, presenting their drag-noir film TRANSFORM 2021: The Queer and Compelling Case of The Darlings’ Demise. SCA alumni Amanda Sum is playing on a bill with Kristina Fung at HIVE on October 2, 2021, from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Tickets are: Hive Members: $18, Non-Members: $22, and Under or Unemployed: $12. Read a great essay in support of SCA alumni and current SCA communicator (that means me!) Brady Cranfield's sound work Weekend Chime, by poet and critic Jeff Derksen, who's also not only a member of the artistic research collaboration Urban Subjects (with the SCA's Sabina Bitter and Helmut Weber), but also a Professor in the SFU Department of English and Dean and Associate Provost of SFU Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies.
