So much Sum!

Read two profiles of multi-talented SCA alumni Amanda Sum. Schroeder's UNDERROOM

Big "last but not least" props to the SCA's Sabrina Schroeder, whose piece, UNDERROOM, composed for amplified string quartet and live electronics, was included in this New York Times feature, 5 Minutes That Will Make You Love String Quartets, chosen by violinist Christopher Otto, a member of the JACK Quartet, whose recording demonstrates Schroeder's skills. Marks & Przedpełski's small-file workshop

The SCA's Laura Marks and Radek Przedpełski are running a three session "small-file media workshop" at VIVO Media Arts Centre, running March 20 & 27 & April 3, 2021, all FROM 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. More info and RSVP HERE.

Cheyenne's Body Parts Workshop

SCA alumni Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg is giving a "Body Parts Online Workshop," presented by the Rotary Arts Centre on February 6 & 7, 2021, from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Please note: "This workshop explores the relationship to our bodies and is intended for women female-identifying and non-binary people with the desire to move! Jackson @ Iris Film Collective

SCA alumni Kellen Jackson is doing a "mini-residency" with the Iris Film Collective from February 1 – 14, 2021. More HERE.

New Societies runs again

Toronto's Crow's Theatre is presenting Re:Current Theatre's New Societies from March 18 – March 28, 2021, which is chock-full of ace SCA folks: "Concept by Brian Postalian, created with the company: Sena Cagla, Howard Dai, Alexa Fraser, Evan Medd, Hannah Meyers, Pascal Reiners, Amanda Sum, Meagan Woods, Montserrat Videla, and Laura Coons." Thompson and the A.R.C. CommUNITY

SCA alumni and current SCA PhD (Special Arrangement) student Daisy Thompson is part of the group A.R.C. CommUNITY, which is trying to raise money to create and offer "community and educational resources, events and programming with an Afrocentric and Indigenous focus for children and families." O'Callaghan @ IRCAM Forum: Montreal

SCA alumni James O'Callaghan is part of the IRCAM Forum: Montreal, which runs February 3 – 12, 2021. His work Alone and Unalone will be performed by the Ensemble Paramirabo, he gave a talk on his work (available on video soon), and he'll be chairing a roundtable discussion on "Interactivity and multimedia in composition." SCA alumni Alexandra Spence is re-presenting her MFA grad work, Inanimate dialogue, along with works by Elia Bosshard and Mimi Kind, in the inaugural parliamenthouse.online exhibition, Fieldwork, which runs February 11 – 13, 2021. More HERE.

Aw, nice! SCA alumni filmmaker Suzanne Friesen is featured in the "Alumni Spotlight" (pg. 46 – 47) of St. John's-Ravenscourt School's magazine FOCUS. Read it HERE.

Morelli does Sportification

SCA alumni Didier Morelli is guest-editing a special issue of esse arts + opinions on "Sportification." Call for papers ends April 1, 2021. More HERE.

Patterson-O'Brien's Mid-Light

SCA alumni Mahaila Patterson-O'Brien posted about her work Mid-Light, produced while Patterson-O'Brien was a COLLIDER Artist in Residence with Theatre Replacement. With a bunch of other SCA folks behind the scenes, Mid-Light showed as "a 20 minute dance film" on February 5, 2021, as part of Theatre Replacement and Company 605's PushOFF 2021: Speculative Futures. Cranfield, Wei, Mulat, and Wallace talk Weekend Chime

The SCA's Brady Cranfield (full disclosure: that's me – an SCA alumni and also current SCA communication wrangler), SCA alumni Casey Wei, Betty Mulat, and Russell Wallace will be part of a FREE listening event and panel discussion for the Vancouver Art Gallery's ART CONNECTS series of events, in support of Cranfield's (I mean, my) new public sound work, Weekend Chime, which was commissioned by the City of Vancouver Public Art Program.
