PuSh Virtual Youth Assembly

Running online on Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (PST), the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival's Virtual Youth Assembly, presented in partnership with SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs and Solid State Industries, includes a "free virtual showing of a 20-minute excerpt" of SCA alumnus Howard Dai's DBLSPK: 菠蘿麵包Pineapple Bun, plus post-show discussion. Jordan Strom, SCA PhD student and curator of exhibitions and collections at the Surrey Art Gallery, and exhibition co-curator Indu Vashist (with Toleen Touq) talk to Stir Vancouver about the Surrey Art Gallery's presentation of P.Mansaram: The Medium is the Medium is the Medium from January 22 to March 20, 2022, co-organized by the Art Museum at the University of Toronto and South Asian Visual Arts Centre, and with community support from the Indian Summer Festival. Sound, Yassine, Liu, and Obuwoma in Response: Soft Action

Video works by SCA alumni Michelle Sound, Ghinwa Yassine, and Xinyue Liu, and current SCA student Ogheneofegor Goodness Obuwoma are included in the exhibition Response: Soft Action, the "culmination of the Response program, a collaboration between The Polygon Gallery and First Nations Student Services and the Indigenous Digital Filmmaking Program at Capilano University," at The Polygon Gallery from January 26 – February 6, 2022. Basanta's Futurs Possibles book & in The Politics of Sound

The publication produced in support of SCA alumnus Adam Basanta exhibition Futurs Possibles, which Basanta describes as a "sketchbook/carnet d'artist, containing an experimental collaborative text with curator Ariane Plante, excerpts from conversations with Iliana Antonova, production sketches, work-in-progress, and several machine-generated poems," has arrived at the Maison des arts de Laval. SCA in PTC's Block A

Great to see three SCA students – Jordyn Wood, Marita Michaelis, and Bana Biltaji – in Playwrights Theatre Centre's Winter Cohort of Block A 2022, a program PTC say is "for artists who write for all kinds of performance, including script driven theatre, from spoken word to performance art to songs – we’ve even had a few screenwriters." The SCA's Peter Dickinson and Hari Krishnan and Allana Lindgren are the 2022 Conference Chairs for the Dance Studies Association's upcoming conference in Vancouver, Dancing Resilience: Dance Studies and Activism in a Global Age, hosted by us. SCA alumnus Hân Phạm is presenting her film To: you, to night as part of Sawdust Collector, act·art·mgt, and Star System Curation's free and online FEED TRIP, which also includes a "listening party of some works in progress" by James Meger's mighty, bombastic Sick Boss.

Wei's review writing workshop

SCA alumnus Casey Wei is running an online multi-session "FreeSchool" workshop for ReIssue, an "interdisciplinary art writing platform" (which Wei also edits), on "methods of approach on review writing." More info HERE.
